About

Photo of Avis Barlow, a European American writer with black plastic and metal eyeglasses, gray and blond short faux hawk hairstyle wearing a black turtleneck shirt. They are standing in front of green plants with clusters of red berries.

Avis Barlow possesses that rare kind of genius that is so generous, it makes us feel genius just to read and immerse our brain-heart-bodies in their work. Each paragraph is a gift, a shock, a prompt, a revelation. This is the book your nightstand has been waiting for.

-Ariel Gore, author of 10+ books, most recently The Wayward Writer, and creator of the award-winning zine, Hip Mama

Avis Barlow delights in telling stories that privilege the warped and juicy moments of life. Their 2024 chapbook, Corpus Memoria: Hair, is part of a larger work-in-progress that uses body parts to re-member life stories that often don’t get heard: those of women, children, and queer folk. When not writing, Avis looks up things for fun, runs questionable fermentation experiments, and wanders the PNW and beyond.
